Where will the next phase of growth come from? Map the pools before you bet.
Before the board debate about where to grow, map the candidate pools: geography, segment, category, channel. Each pool carries its evidence, its size (or an honest 'unknown'), and its position on attractiveness versus your right to win.
Define each candidate growth space with its demand evidence. Unknown size stays "unknown" — a map built on invented TAMs sends you to the wrong geography.
Top-right = pursue. Top-left = build the evidence or the capability before committing. "(?)" marks pools with unknown size — research them before sizing the bet.
Pools plot on a 2×2: attractiveness (size, growth, margin potential) against right to win (your access, capability, proof). Top-right is pursue; top-left is 'build capability or evidence first'.
Size is entered only with a source. Pools marked 'unknown' display a flag — sizing them is the research task, not a number to invent.
The evidence ledger per pool is the real output: it converts a strategy argument into a list of things to verify.
Illustrative figures, not a client outcome.
Addressable spend, growth, margin structure and competitive intensity. Score what you can evidence; mark the rest unknown and research it.
Five to eight. Beyond that you're collecting options, not choosing between them.
