Growth Bets Prioritization Matrix

Five growth ideas, one budget. Rank the bets before the offsite does it by volume.

Five initiatives, one budget, one team. Score every bet against weighted criteria, watch the ranking respond as the weights change, and leave with a now/next/later/no-go portfolio instead of a compromise.

How it works

Each bet is scored 1–5 on six criteria; weights (0–10) are yours. Scores normalize to /100. Buckets: ≥70 now, 50–69 next, 35–49 later, below 35 no-go.

Sensitivity is the feature: change the weights in front of the leadership team and watch which bets survive. Bets that only win under one weighting scheme are political, not strategic.

Investment and risk are scored as '5 = cheap / safe' so higher is always better — no mixed-direction confusion.

Worked example

'Enter South India' outranks 'Premium SKU launch' 68 vs 61 until the CFO doubles the affordability weight — the premium launch wins 74–59. The real decision surfaces: this is a capital-allocation conversation, not a marketing one.

Questions, answered

Why not just rank by impact?

Because high-impact, low-confidence bets bankrupt companies. Confidence and risk exist precisely to discipline exciting ideas.

What if everything scores 'now'?

Your scores are inflated. Force-rank impact first, or drop the weakest bet entirely — a strategy where everything is now is not a strategy.
