Exposure = relevance × velocity (how hard this hits you). Readiness = what you could ship in 90 days. Urgent gaps need an owner this quarter, not a watch-list.

How it works

Exposure = relevance × velocity (1–5 each, so 0–25). Readiness = what you could ship within 90 days (1–5).

Gap = exposure − readiness × 5. A gap of 10 or more is urgent: high-exposure shift, low readiness.

The radar visualises readiness across your top five shifts; the table sorts everything by gap.

Worked example

An FMCG brand scores quick commerce: relevance 5, velocity 5 (exposure 25) against readiness 1 (gap 20, urgent). Sustainable packaging scores gap 0. The offsite stops debating twelve trends and funds one quick-commerce pilot.

Questions, answered

Which trends should we include?

Only ones that could plausibly touch your P&L within 24 months. A trend list longer than seven is a reading list, not a strategy input.

Who should score readiness?

The people who would have to ship the response — sales, supply chain, digital. Strategy teams systematically over-score their own readiness.
