Advertising Creative Pre-Flight Scorecard

Before the campaign spends a rupee, score the creative against nine checks.

Before the campaign spends a rupee, score the creative against nine checks — branding in three seconds, one message, buyer's problem first, survives the logo-strip, a provable claim, a real next step. Nine passes, or it doesn't fly.

Before the campaign spends a rupee: pass/fail each check on the actual creative — not the strategy deck.

Branded in the first 3 seconds / first glance
One message, not three
About the buyer's problem before our product
Distinctively ours — survives the logo-strip test
A specific, provable claim (not 'best', 'leading', 'quality')
A reason to act now that isn't a fake countdown
Readable at actual size, at actual speed, on an actual phone
One clear next step
Would survive being shown to a sceptical CFO

How it works

Nine pass/fail checks on the actual creative, not the strategy deck: brand early, one message, buyer-first, distinctive, provable, actionable, readable at real size and speed, one next step, CFO-proof.

Seven or eight passes means small revision. Six or fewer means structural revision — the campaign would have bought attention and donated the memory.

The cheap test: five target buyers, five seconds, three questions (whose ad, what's the message, what next).

Worked example

A festive film scores 6/9: no brand cue until second 11, two competing messages, and 'quality you deserve' as the claim. The revision moves branding to frame one and swaps the claim for 'delivery in 48 hours, tracked'. Same media budget, measurably remembered.

Illustrative figures, not a client outcome.

Questions, answered

Won't this kill creative ambition?

The opposite — it kills creative gambling. The checks constrain recognition and clarity, never originality. Distinctive is a check; boring is not a strategy.

Who scores?

Marketing, sales and one person who wasn't in the room when it was made. In-room consensus is how 6/9 work gets to 9/9 self-scores.
